Getaways

Are you sitting down? I have big news. New York is more than Manhattan. I know! Who would have thought?! Sure, the crowded streets, sleepless nights, city lights, entertainment and attractions are great, but might I propose an alternate New York getaway and Hotel stay? I promise to include iconic city experiences in the journey.

Meet your Home Base: Sonesta White Plains, New York

She’s cozy, she’s inviting, she’s newly renovated, she’s high-class. Sonesta Hotels & Resorts as a brand focuses on the mind, body, rest and relaxation, so enjoy bedside reading and a mindful welcome to start your trip off right. Start your day at our onsite cafe & restaurant, Whisk, serving coffee and breakfast, and end your evening with dinner adnd rinks at our restaurant and bar (Whisk and Mix cocktail Bar). You may even like to get a workout in or pop into the indoor heated pool.

The hotel’s location and White Plains in general have a lot to offer – luxury shopping at The Westchester, live performances at White Plains Performing Arts Center, outdoor recreation at nearby Saxon Woods and Cranberry Lake Preserve and golfing, and historic Hudson Valley attractions.

But there’s also a lot to go out and see while you’re staying in White Plains.

Around Westchester County

Westchester combines charming historic towns, Hudson River scenery, upscale shopping, acclaimed restaurants, gardens, outdoor adventures, and cultural attractions. It’s not one single tourist destination — it’s a collection of distinct communities, each with its own appeal. Walk a historic Main Street and take in river views in Terrytown; visit Yonkers for gardens and waterfront attractions; visit Playland and Long Island Sound in Rye; head to Pocantico Hills to see Kykuit and historic attractions (check hours and book ahead).

Legendary destinations in Sleepy Hollow

Just north of the city, Sleepy Hollow offers a storybook New York experience. Famous for Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, this historic Hudson River village invites visitors to explore the lore of the Headless Horseman, wander centuries-old burial grounds, and discover landmarks steeped in local history. Visit in autumn for an extra dose of Halloween magic, or explore the area’s scenic waterfront, historic sites, and neighboring Tarrytown throughout the year. From Sonesta White Plains, it’s another way to discover the character and charm of the region beyond Manhattan. If you’re visiting attractions, check hours and book ahead!

A Coastal Escape in Nearby Connecticut

Just beyond Westchester County, Greenwich, Connecticut offers a taste of New England charm with a sophisticated twist. Spend an afternoon browsing the boutiques and cafés along Greenwich Avenue, discover art and science at the Bruce Museum, or head toward the coast for scenic walks and waterfront views along Long Island Sound. When it’s time to dine, you’ll find everything from inviting neighborhood spots to upscale restaurants overlooking the harbor.

Greenwich is just 9.8 miles from the hotel.

Into NYC

From White Plains, travelers can take Metro-North into Grand Central Terminal and spend a day exploring Broadway, museums, iconic landmarks, shopping, or the neighborhoods they’ve always wanted to visit. NYC will be an exciting part of the tip (but not the entire trip!). There’s so much to explore in New York.

So come visit Sonesta White Plains Downtown. The hotel experience itself is worth the visit – but the proximity and connection to so many great towns and cities is an extra special appeal – all within reach of one stay.
